Miscellaneous Notes

Clarification

Commendations are not like badges and ribbon devices, they are actual awards and they SHALL NOT be available through clothing stores. It is the same logic as for medals/bars/clasps, only the issuing office can officially issue them.

The Command Commendation should be treated similarly and each authorized command can issue 4 insignia to each recipient.

Only the Honours and Awards office of the authorized commands should be able to order these insignia from the supply system to issue them to their recipients. The commands who are authorized to award Command Commendations are as follows:

  • Vice Chief of the Defence Staff;
  • Chief of the Maritime Staff;
  • Chief of the Land Staff;
  • Chief of the Air Staff;
  • Chief Military Personnel Command;
  • Commander of Canada Command;
  • Commander of the Canadian Expeditionary Force Command;
  • Commander of the Canadian Operational Support Command;
  • Commander of the Canadian Special Operations Forces Command;
  • Deputy Commander NORAD.
